Charge-discharge Characteristics Of Electric Forklift Batteries

1. Charging voltage

Since the battery of the electric forklift is in standby mode, under normal circumstances, the battery of the electric forklift is in charging state and will only be discharged when the power supply is cut off. In order to extend the service life of the battery, the charger of UPS is usually controlled by constant voltage current limitation, and the battery of the electric forklift is changed to floating charging state after it is full.

For batteries with terminal voltage of 12V, the normal floating charging voltage is 13.5 to 13.8v. Floating charging voltage is too low, the battery is not fully charged, floating charging voltage is too high, will lead to overvoltage charging. When the floating charging voltage exceeds 14V, it is considered as overvoltage charging. Overvoltage charging of battery pack of electric forklift is strictly prohibited, because overvoltage charging will cause the water in battery electrolyte to escape into hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis, thus increasing the concentration of electrolyte, shortening the battery's service life, and even damaging the battery.

2. Charging current

The charging current of the battery is generally represented by C, and the actual value of C is related to the capacity of the battery. For example, if the battery is 100Ah: C is 100A. The optimal charging current of lead-free battery is about 0.1c, and the charging current shall not be greater than 0.3c.

Too much or too little charging current can affect the battery's life.

The ideal charging current should be fixed current charging in stages, that is, charging with a large current at the beginning of charging, charging to a small current at the end of charging after charging for a certain period of time, rather than a small current. The design of charging current is generally 0.1c. When the charging current is greater than 0.3c, it can be used for over current charging. Avoid using a quick charger for charging, otherwise the battery will be in a state of "transient overcurrent charging" and "transient overvoltage charging", resulting in the battery can be used to reduce or even damage the battery. Overcurrent charging will cause the panels to bend and the active substances to fall off, resulting in a decline in the battery's power supply and serious damage to the battery.
