The forklift air filter is very crucial for the proper operation of the engine. Last paper we discussed The Importance of Forklift Air Filters, in this article, we will talk about how to maintain the forklift air filter elements.
Routine maintenance of forklift air filter elements can reduce the wear and tear of forklift engines and extend their life. The replacement cycle for the forklift air filter element is generally based on the recommended time in the forklift manual. Typically, there are the following reference standards mean that you should replace the forklift air filter element:
1. Worked 250 hours or 3 months;
2. The air filter indicator lights up, indicating excessive intake resistance or blockage.
3. In dusty or poor working conditions, maintenance intervals should be shortened.
The frequency of air filter element replacement is closely related to the forklift operating environment as well as the amount of dust and sand inhaled. For forklifts that are operated frequently or in poor working environments, where the amount of dust and grit inhaled is high, it is recommended that the forklift air filter element be replaced once a month. For less frequently used forklifts, or forklifts working in a clean state, the replacement of the filter element can be extended to once every three months.
How to maintain the forklift air filter elements:
Clean the filter element: When there is not a lot of dust on the air filter element, you can tap the end cover of the filter element to shake off the dust, and then blow the filter element from inside to outside along the oblique direction with dry compressed air with a pressure of no more than 500kPa.
Replacement of the filter element: When the outer filter element has been maintained five times or the outer filter element has been damaged, the filter element needs to be replaced directly. Some forklift air filter housings are equipped with sensors that alert the forklift operator when the filter element needs to be replaced.
Notes on replacing forklift air filter elements:
1. It is strictly prohibited to clean or replace the air filter while the forklift engine is running.
2. When cleaning the air filter element, remove the filter element and blow dry compressed air with a pressure of 0.69MPA from the inside of the filter element along the circumference. After blowing out the filter element, reinstall it.
3. When replacing the air filter element, ensure that the forklift is parked, the handbrake is tightened, and the engine is turned off. Wear gloves during the operation.
4. Open the engine hood, unlock the buckle of the air filter housing, remove the old filter element, replace it with a new one, and make sure that it is installed in place. Then cover the housing and fasten the clips to complete the replacement.
