The Function of the Crankshaft Thrust Plate:

The crankshaft thrust Plate is a type of sliding bearing in the engine, primarily serving to provide axial support for the crankshaft and prevent axial movement. It consists of two pieces that are only installed on the forward and aft thrust faces of the main bearing seats in the engine block. Before installation, engine oil must be applied to the oil grooves of the thrust plate. The side without the oil groove faces towards the engine block, while the side with the oil groove faces the crankshaft, and they are inserted into the thrust plate slots of the fourth main bearing seat.

 

The role of the crankshaft thrust plate is crucial because it ensures that the crankshaft can rotate axially in a stable manner during engine operation without experiencing undue axial movement. If the thrust plate fails or is improperly installed, it could lead to axial movement of the crankshaft, which in turn may cause a series of engine issues, such as oil leaks, excessive crankcase pressure, and wear on the crankshaft bearings.
